• SAMS Receives National Veteran-Owned Business Association Certification

    Strategy and Management Services, Inc. (SAMS), an award-winning provider of enterprise-wide solutions for commercial buyers and federal agencies is now a National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) Certified Service-Disabled Veteran’s Business Enterprise (SDVBE). This marks the company’s third Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) verification.
    Third-party verification remains critical as the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs continue to recognize self-certification as a major problem in small business government contracting. The GAO has recommended abolishing self-certification and replacing it with a robust verification system that would deter, detect and severely punish fraud.
    “Self-certification requires minimal vetting and allows dishonest businesses to obtain the federal contracts specifically set aside for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses,” said Staci L. Redmon, president and CEO of SAMS. “Legitimate SDVOSBs like SAMS rely on our verification for access to those same set-asides. It’s what levels the playing field and enables us to compete against larger, more successful corporations. When government spending is wasted, we all lose.”
    NaVOBA certification requires applicants to provide significant documentation and undergo rigorous credential and site reviews. This stringent process mirrors existing certification requirements for Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and Women’s Business Enterprises (WBEs) selling to corporate America. NaVOBA aims to provide similar confidence to commercial buyers who proactively source and utilize businesses that are at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by U.S. military veterans.
