• Just want to share with everyone how terrific the monthly Brown Bag Seminars are. The topics are current and the monthly speakers are knowledgeable. We've not only learned a great deal but have also made some great connections.

  • We think the "Shop Local" program is a tremendous idea and is another reason we believe in the Chamber. We think the program, or something similar, should be continued after the holidays.

  • Interstate did a small move for Seth Stark & Associates. One Chamber member helping another. It never would’ve happened if I hadn’t served as Seth’s Ambassador. They were using another vendor for the first part of their move but afterwards told me working with Interstate was the difference between night and day.

Health Care Reform

Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce
Health Care Reform
Policy Statement
July 21, 2009

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce supports comprehensive health care reform, enabling basic coverage at reasonable costs. However, the Chamber opposes employer mandates, minimum required coverage levels and the imposition of additional tax burdens on businesses and individuals. The Chamber does not support a government-run health plan, which would be an unfair competitor with private plans.

The Chamber supports creation of an insurance cooperative for small businesses, making insurance portable and the elimination of the bans on pre-existing conditions. The Chamber supports reform to the fee for service payment method, supports caps for malpractice awards and supports more efficient use of health information technology.

Reform to the ailing health care system in the United States is needed. Reform must be comprehensive and coverage competitively available to all US citizens that wish to purchase it. But health care reform must not come at the detriment of the business community.
