RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
GREATER SPRINGFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Re: BRAC INITIATIVE FOR FORT BELVOIR
The Board of Directors of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, having voted to support the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Initiative for Fort Belvoir, Virginia, including the portion of the base known as the Engineer Proving Ground (EPG), hereby states:
Be It Resolved
that the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce fully supports the BRAC Initiative vis-à-vis Fort Belvoir based on implementation plans made public to date. These plans include base sitings of several government agencies including the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and Washington Headquarters Service, DeWitt Army Community Hospital, and the National Museum of the United States Army.
The Chamber takes no position at this time as to the particular location of any government functions or facilities vis-à-vis Ft. Belvoir’s South Post or EPG. The Chamber will continue to work with officials, entities, departments and agencies involved in this multi-layered and tasked Initiative over the coming years so as to achieve a positive, structured implementation for the greater good of all, including the businesses and residents of the Greater Springfield area.
The Chamber recognizes the need to and encourages all involved agencies to work cohesively to provide sufficient transportation infrastructure to efficiently implement this BRAC Initiative. This includes mass transit, road improvements and connector transportation to and from the main post and to and from the EPG. The Chamber’s support for this Initiative must therefore be contingent on approved funding and completion of transportation and other necessary public infrastructure improvements/additions.
Resolution voted on and passed unanimously, this 24th day of October, 2006 by the Board of Directors of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
